Tv. do Conde de Avintes 1, 1100-155 Lisbon, Portugal

KWY.studio is a multidisciplinary platform that explores collaboration through specific projects. Founded in 2009 in Berlin and Los Angeles, KWY collaborates with invited specialists, including artists, writers, curators, educators, designers, and landscape architects. Each project arises from a dialogue and analysis among collaborators, without initial preconceptions, and this process-oriented approach generates unexpected and innovative ideas.

Relocation and New Collaborations

In 2015, KWY relocated its studio from Berlin to the creative cluster of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale and opened an office in Copenhagen. In 2016, it began a long-term collaboration with Danish artists SUPERFLEX, presenting Waste Water Fountain at the Emscherkunst triennial in Germany. Since then, KWY has developed significant projects with SUPERFLEX, such as One Two Three Swing! for the Tate Modern in London, exhibited in various countries.

Projects for Desert X AlUla

In 2020, KWY.studio was commissioned to design the Visitor Center for Desert X AlUla, welcoming visitors to the first exhibition of its kind in Saudi Arabia. Following the success of this inaugural edition, the studio was again called upon to design the Visitor Centers for 2022 and 2024, completing a trilogy dedicated to the landscape of AlUla and its community.

Transformations and New Projects

Since 2021, KWY has been engaged in the transformation of Palácio Belmonte, a historic building in central Lisbon, in collaboration with artist Olafur Eliasson and others. In 2025, the studio will complete the Sharjah Memory Park in the United Arab Emirates, a vast landscape project realized with SUPERFLEX, Schul, TRANSOLAR, and BETAR.

Art, Space, and Nature

At KWY.studio, we are fortunate to develop collaborative projects that experiment with space, art, the public, and the natural world, exploring their intersections. Over time, we have refined our tools for designing, developing, and building.

Collaboration and Research

Our approach stems from the intersection of art and architecture, with a focus on collaborative processes. The success of each project depends on the quality of research and preliminary discussions. Working collaboratively involves creating multiple interpretations of the initial vision, considering not only the physical context but also the geometries of design.

An Evolved Platform for Creation

KWY.studio has evolved from an unstructured archive of experiences into a conceptually defined platform capable of creating, developing, and realizing complex experiments in art and architecture. Each project represents an opportunity to rethink the process, enriching our knowledge base in terms of design, technique, and materials.

A Global and Collaborative Team

With each project, we continue to expand our know-how and strengthen collaborations with clients, craftsmen, and builders from around the world, creating strong ties with the talents we encounter in different countries.
