Damp walls? The practical and long-lasting solution with DELTA®-PT

Recovery and restructuring are now an essential part of construction interventions. Restoring a masonry wall means not only making degraded environments habitable again, but also preserving the historical architectural heritage. However, these interventions must be safe, long-lasting, and economically sustainable. DELTA®-PT offers a solution to the problem.

Moisture: the main enemy of masonry

Moisture is one of the main causes of degradation in below-grade masonry, making the environments unhealthy and promoting material deterioration. Traditional interventions to solve the problem can be complex, costly, and sometimes ineffective. A quick and efficient method involves using a physical barrier to separate the damp masonry from the new internal finish, ensuring a dry and protected environment over time.

DELTA®-PT: the effective solution for renovation

DELTA®-PT, developed by Dörken, is a HDPE dimpled membrane with a thermowelded plaster carrier mesh, designed for the renovation of damp masonry. This solution offers numerous advantages:

  • Separation layer: prevents direct contact between degraded masonry and the new finish.

  • Ventilated cavity: the structure with truncated cone reliefs of 8 mm promotes air circulation, speeding up the drying process.

  • Easy installation: the membrane is applied dry with precise anchoring and overlaps.

  • High resistance: guaranteed for at least 25 years, it resists acids, alkaline solutions, salts, and solvents.

How to properly install DELTA®-PT

For an effective installation, it is essential to follow the correct installation procedure:

1. Membrane positioning: Apply DELTA®-PT in vertical strips and fix the closure profiles (DELTA®-PROFILO PT) at the top and bottom. The lateral overlap of the membrane must be correctly inserted into the closure profile to ensure optimal sealing.

2. Mechanical fastening: Secure at intervals of approximately 25 cm with DELTA®-TASSELLO MS or stainless steel nails with fixing buttons, starting from the center and moving towards the sides to avoid bulges. Special attention should be paid to the lateral overlaps to ensure perfect adhesion.

3. Ensuring ventilation: the alveolar structure of the membrane creates an air gap that promotes drying of the wall. At floor and ceiling level, ventilation is ensured by the ventilation slots of DELTA®-PROFILO PT.

4. Sealing of perforations: all perforations in the membrane due to passing elements, such as vents, air pipes, or electrical systems, must be carefully sealed with sealant or silicone to prevent the passage of moisture, which could affect gypsum-based finishes or damage drywall panels.

Conclusions

Using DELTA®-PT for the remediation of damp masonry represents a safe, durable, and economically advantageous solution. Thanks to its advanced technology, it ensures healthy environments and a stable finish over time, avoiding typical problems related to moisture. Properly following the installation phases ensures an optimal result, improving the quality of building recovery interventions.
