Designer Lilian van Daal, who draws inspiration from the immensely efficient forms found in nature, makes a plea to the community with the Pelt Chair: there is an urgent need for climate action, the energy resources we have always relied on are not infinite, balances are at risk, and we are all called to reflect on how to address the issue. Her ideas are certainly not lacking, and with this project, she demonstrates the potential for each individual to generate energy through body heat

Copper and aluminum to generate electricity from body heat

A power that manifests itself in stillness, while sitting: the Pelt Chair is made of copper and aluminum, with forms inspired by the microscopic structures of nature; beauty and functionality combined to let heat flow through the chair, transforming it into electricity, illuminating it. Sit, reason, and light up the bulb of brilliant ideas

The design project of the Pelt Chair also carries a second message, that time is running out. The power of the heat flow passing through the chair generating electricity depends on the difference in temperature between the body and the air. Therefore, with the increase in ambient temperatures, the light of the Pelt Chair will dim until it fades away. This precarious condition constantly reminds us that now is the time to sit, reason, and light up the proverbial bulb of brilliant ideas to shape a better tomorrow
