Historical Promiscuities: ceramics fusing classical and pop

Historical Promiscuities” introduces us to a series of large, special edition ceramic pieces- Kallisto, Kalliope & Kallistrate- designed by Designer Adam Nathaniel Furman for Botossi Ceramics. These pieces, showcased during Milan Design Week 2018, are more than just artifacts; they are a bold statement of defiance against the prevailing austerity in design

Harmonious fusion of soft forms and bold lines

One of the defining features of "Historical Promiscuities" lies in its harmonious balance of soft, organic shapes and bold, graphic lines. Furman masterfully blends the fluidity of form with the precision of graphic design, resulting in objects that exude both sophistication and playfulness. This juxtaposition invites viewers to explore the interplay between tradition and modernity, creating a captivating visual spectacle

Philosophy behind the art

In describing his creative philosophy, Furman eloquently reflects on the nature of history and its role in shaping our collective consciousness: "History doesn't belong to historians, it dies, turns to dust, and crumbles in their hands. It doesn't belong to big tomes hidden in dark libraries, or to conservators, or to fascists, it belongs to us, to each of us, to make of it what we want, it's ours, given to us in the very act of dying. It's not a burden, it's the very material from which we can carve and make things anew."
