Rottmannsboden duplex is designed by KOHLERSTRAUMANN, which, with a minimal use of materials and colors, gives light to a duplex house of remarkable beauty and elegance. The project, located in Binningen, Switzerland, aimed to integrate two distinct housing utilities into one building. As a result, the building's shape reflects the design of two dwellings housed in a single home structure that meets the needs of both users
One structure, two dwellings, a stylish and elegant design
The Rottmannsboden duplex house, with its modern and simple architectural design, features a limited choice of materials, wood and concrete, which work in harmony and offer extremely elegant and relaxing interiors

To meet the challenge of building on the existing topographic conditions of the site and adhering to legal requirements, the building was separated into series of units with a common portion. The exposed surfaces made of sandblasted cement-based material have not only a certain aesthetic value, but also a protective function, significantly reducing the energy consumption of the house due to its good insulation and climate shielding properties. This material repairs rooms and spaces during both the hottest and coldest months
The living area includes large glass openings through which the interior is flooded with light, drawing residents into a more inviting, enveloping and multidimensional space. Making the most of daylight, the home brings in enough light through glass windows which reduce the use of artificial light, particularly during the daytime
