PLANITHERM INFINITY ORAÉ® stands out as the most innovative glass worldwide for its minimized environmental impact.
Created in the laboratories of Saint-Gobain in Italy, in Pisa, ORAÉ® represents a revolution in the field of construction materials thanks to its advanced production method that allows to reduce CO2 emissions by 42% compared to traditional glasses, while maintaining unchanged the technical characteristics, quality, and aesthetics.
For a clearer idea, the carbon footprint of ORAÉ® stands at an exceptionally low value of 6.64 kg of CO2 per square meter of glass (for a thickness of 4 mm). This result is particularly significant considering the weight that the construction sector has on global CO2 emissions, with a share of 40% of total emissions, and the specific contribution of windows, which can account for up to 12%.
The secret behind the reduced environmental impact of ORAÉ® lies in the close collaboration between Saint-Gobain Italy and its suppliers in the glass supply chain. This synergy has allowed to increase the use of recycled glass up to 64% in the melting mix, thus minimizing the extraction of new raw materials and the energy required for production. At the same time, the purchase and use of sustainable raw materials, such as natural soda, have been optimized.
From an industrial point of view, Saint-Gobain Italy ensures that the energy used for the manufacturing of ORAÉ® comes entirely from renewable sources. This goal has been achieved through the ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) plant, started in 2019, which allows to recover residual energy from the furnace exhaust gases and complete the energy needs with certified green electricity.
Currently, ORAÉ® is the only flat glass on the market that combines exceptional carbon footprint reduction with an Environmental Product Certification, positioning itself as a leader in its sector for sustainability and innovation.
