On the tenth floor of the residential complex Le Torri designed by Enzo Zacchiroli, who with his architectures said to always go "in search of the well-being and happiness of the Little Man", an apartment is equipped with the container volume Zigo-Zago to create, through the new design, a direct connection with the original structure
The MIRO architects studio, in charge of the renovation, faces this stimulating challenge with the architecture of Zacchiroli, an architect who is a son of the Modern Movement trained at the school of Frank Lloyd Wright, deciding to bring the exteriors inside the house. Here, the initial difficulty posed by the presence of a reinforced concrete wall that cut through the floor plan becomes the project's strength.
The wall is wrapped by a custom-made container volume called 'Zigo-Zago': a room-divider furniture piece with a rhythmic silhouette that reinterprets the formal logic, functional idea, and play of light and shadow of the iconic building facade, transforming into a scaled-down remodulation of it.
At the center of the apartment, white with black niches in contrast to create depth, Zigo-Zago becomes the backbone around which all the other spaces are modulated: from the living area, with interconnected kitchen-dining and living room, to the sleeping area deliberately concealed as a private space accessed through a majestic pivot door that serves as a passage to the intimacy of the home.
