Finding harmony through the opposition of polarities: light and dark, wide and narrow, heavy and light, closed and open. In the A1208PP apartment in Hanoi, the design applies the Eastern philosophy of Yin and Yang, in which all things exist as opposite and inseparable poles, with the intention of making their balance perceived in the space of daily living

A spacious and welcoming residence with home-office and private altar

Among the various interior design projects by FLAT6 Architects studio, we find the one for the transformation of an old, dilapidated dwelling, with narrow and dark spaces, into the balanced and airy A1208PP apartment. The new owner requested from the professionals a spacious and welcoming residence, equipped with a single bedroom, a home-office, and a sacred space for a private altar dedicated to worship rituals. This last feature is not common for Vietnamese homes, but religious families always request it

Yang spaces for freedom and spaciousness, Yin spaces for introspection and calm

The space is divided into two Yin and Yang zones. Yang, representing freedom and spaciousness, is found in the main areas: the bedroom and the living area which includes the kitchen, dining area, living room, and home office, all with direct access to natural light and an airy layout. The Yin area contains the entrance and sacred space: intimate, with a warm and twilight atmosphere, illuminated by a round central lamp that, like a full moon, radiates a soft yellow light

Finishes: glass partition walls, light and dark woods, and shades

The two areas of the house, Yin and Yang, are separated by a system of glass partition walls that allow for the right amount of privacy in the multiplicity of functions of this fluid space, fundamentally united. Dark wood and gray-toned flooring characterize the entrance and altar; the kitchen and library, along with the wooden floor and walls of the yang space, are chosen in lighter shades up to white with contrasting dark yin inserts
