Dan and Jay called on MXMA Architecture & Design and Patrick St-Onge Habitat to bring to life their new and larger urban chalet, meticulously curated to reflect their lifestyle, where they can comfortably settle during their frequent escapes from Toronto to Montreal. Open on three sides, with an east to west exposure, the Party of Two apartment offers a 180-degree panorama and a special, immersive visual experience
At MXMA studio, they like to define themselves as "creators of happiness" for the passion with which they work to fulfill their clients' wishes with their architecture and interior design projects. In the Party of Two residence, they create a central "functional box" where all service areas and technical compartments are contained, freeing up space for the main functions towards the perimeter walls, which offer natural light and a spectacular view of Mount Royal and downtown Montreal
The functional volume is a true design object: a box in smoked eucalyptus, sculpted with intelligent openings that reveal pieces of the landscape, dominates and organizes the scene of the Party of Two. From the entrance door, you enter inside the wooden cocoon to then be thrilled by the contrast with the spaciousness and brightness of the living area. Here you encounter a first minimalist lounge with Mjolk Arm sofa flanked by two OMA speakers, true works of art; following is the dining room that leads into the kitchen: one of the two hearts of the home, Dan's realm, composed of two large super functional islands despite their precious elegance
In the kitchen and bar of the music lounge, the second protagonist material appears: the green marble of the countertops and backdrops evokes the modernist aesthetic of the post-war period. The music room is the other heart of the house, Jay's realm: a sanctuary of the multisensory experience where sight, hearing, and touch are maximally satisfied by the accuracy of the design. On the legendary Mah Jong sofa by Roche Bobois, you can enjoy the music diffused by strategically positioned speakers, enveloped by wooden sound-absorbing walls and ceilings that optimize the sounds
The space dedicated to the daytime and convivial functions of the Party of Two apartment is pervaded by warmth, refined elegance, and continuous opportunities for sharing offered by careful design. The sleeping area houses the two owner's suites: one to the east and the other to the west, two relaxation retreats characterized by each one's specific tastes. Jay's suite is a simple and refined "bachelor pad" with a bathroom in "prison chic" style. Dan's suite has a delicate atmosphere with modernist details
