KalKAn ALtes Villas, architecture rooted in the Mediterranean

The Kalkan Altes Villas are a residential complex consisting of six different units. Located on a hill with an impressive view of the Mediterranean Sea in the Ortaalan district in Kalkan, Turkey. The natural beauty and distinctive texture of the site were the main sources of inspiration during the design process by Yazgan Design Architecture.

Architectural integration with breathtaking views

With a pure and simple architectural language, the Kalkan Altes Villas aim to integrate seamlessly into the landscape. The architectural design firm Yazgan Design Architecture has conceived the three dimensions of each villa harmoniously with the topography of the site, and their positioning is strategically planned so as not to obstruct the view of the Mediterranean Sea for other residential units.

Two levels of living spaces in harmonious contrast

Each villa is composed of two load-bearing walls that form a living module on the ground floor and a white box stacked on top containing the bedrooms facing the sea. The lower part of the villa, with a double height, with all its materiality, acts as a continuation of the surrounding environment and textures.
On the contrary, the upper part, thanks to its pure form and orientation, appears to float towards the sea.

Living Spaces and Flooded Light Environments

The kitchen and the double-height living space on the lower level completely open up to an infinity pool overlooking the breathtaking view. The layout of each villa allows all living spaces to have a direct view of the sea.

As an alternative to stairs, each villa is equipped with a private elevator that provides seamless connection between the floors.
The materiality and use of natural light are of great importance in the design of these villas. The reflections of the colored glass skylights shine on the exposed concrete walls of the living space, adding color to the space and marking the movement of the sun throughout the day.

Materials as a choice of interpenetration between territory and architectural work

The pavement and cladding materials have been carefully chosen to create a visual contrast between the two parts of the villa. In the lower part, the corten steel facades of the retaining walls provide a warm and lived-in texture that is constantly changing.
The laminate wood floors, furniture, lighting elements, and accessories are color harmonized with the corten facade. The incorporation of landscaping elements in the architectural design, plants and native elements, aims to root each villa in its context.
In contrast to the warm and rough texture of the lower part, the upper part maintains a sense of purity and lightness with the use of smooth textures and white tones. Luxurious marble for floors and wall cladding, paint, furniture, bathrooms, and lighting elements are all chosen to reflect this vision. The orange-colored film placed on the transparent parapets of the galleries draws the eye upwards, emphasizing the depth and vertical visual relationship between the levels and the two parts that make up each villa.
