Lund is known in Norway as a jazz musician and composer. Since he was the client, music became a natural metaphor in the project, although he forbade TYIN's architects to refer to him as a client, instead insisting that they should all consider themselves as members of the band
Music and Architecture. A meeting place for artists in the wilderness in Norway
TYIN Tegnestue Architects studio and musician Lund envisage a dream space, a work area where artists and musicians can retire. The place is the small island of Fleinvær, Norway, immersed in the wilderness where they can enjoy the extraordinary beauty
In the beginning Fleinvær was thought to be the artist's place of work, a sort of place of writing. As time passed he felt the impulse to share what he had developed with others. Working on a picturesque island with the majestic Lofoten mountain range as a backdrop can seem to be a dream scenario for any architect and artist
A preliminary step was to divide the project into several smaller milestones. The construction site underwent an accurate three-dimensional analysis that provided a complete overview of the lot, which was essential to guide the further development of the project
The "modest" interference with the soil distinguished itself as an important element in the construction process. Moss and other terrestrial vegetation contributed to the natural splendour of Fleinvær. If stripped during construction, it will take decades to regrow. The island is also a nesting ground for seagulls and seabirds. The consideration for the natural environment is reflected in the small volumes of the building and their careful adaptation to the terrain. The limited contact between the project and the ground level also makes it possible to remove the buildings without major damage to the natural environment
