Between history and nature the recovery of the rural house in Oltrepò Pavese

The recovery and enhancement of an ancient farmhouse from the early 1900s immersed in the idyllic landscape of the Oltrepò Pavese, between the northern Italian cities of Alessandria, Piacenza, and Pavia: this is a project that respects the charm of antiquity through an authentic and genuine design, reflecting the philosophy of the Milanese couple who commissioned it, owners of an independent tailoring business that combines craftsmanship and entrepreneurship

A story to be told through objects and materials

The renovation project of the rural house carried out by the Italian studio Lascia La Scia resulted in a spacious, refined, and warm countryside home of 190 square meters, spread over three floors created by the recovery and connection of the main house with the old workshop. It is a project that focuses on the owners' passion for objects and lived-in places that have a story to tell. Barrel vaults with iron inserts, ancient solid wood doors, the old central staircase, the stones of the original walls, the ancient brick cornice: everything with historical value is recovered and integrated into the new living project

The former workshop, an inspired living space

A large 2.8 meters high door leads to the entrance which, modified to connect the main house to the former workshop, welcomes with its restored old oven, a decorative sign that alludes to old stories. The workshop, equipped with new large full-height openings framing the countryside, becomes the living space of the house divided into various areas: one around the existing fireplace, one for reading, and a more convivial one. The "TV area," which hardly matched the inspired essence of the living space, is set up in a separate room, next to the laundry room and the guest bathroom. In the center of the living space, a pre-existing pillar supports the roof reconstructed with exposed beams

Barrel vaults and minimal design

In the old manor house, on the ground floor, there is the kitchen with a barrel vault ceiling contrasted by minimal furniture and cold finishes such as the Tulip table by Saarinen, the Arco lamp by Achille Castiglioni, and the white kitchen with steel inserts recovered. On the first floor, the sleeping area also features numerous reclaimed works, both from the house, such as the ancient terracotta floor and the exposed stone walls, and from the furniture restored by the owners, such as the iron bed, the bedside tables, and the chest of drawers typical of peasant culture. In the attic, there is a large walk-in closet and the guest room with an en-suite bathroom

Exterior Finishes

For the restoration of the rural house, both the roof, made with exposed wooden beams, and some reinforced concrete slabs have been reconstructed. Externally, a thermal insulation system with a dark gray finish has been installed, contrasting with the armored windows in corten finish, with the brick cornice and the wooden roof
