The former forge and carpentry have been transformed into the theatre of a new home. Some of the existing shed roofs are very sloped downwards, only a part of them have been maintained. Likewise, part of the concrete floor has remained, the rest has been demolished
Detached house with B&B. The former Belgian workshop renovated for a contemporary housing
In a unique location in the centre of the city of Ghent, the capital of East Flanders, the architects of the NU architectuuratelier studio build a single-family house within the walls of an old industrial building
The house, built of wood and steel has been combined with a rational structure, which divides the environment into two parts. The result was a south-facing volume that benefits from the direct beam of light and combines two complementary outdoor spaces: a walled garden and a work station
The house is designed as a transparent filter between these two front and rear areas: the classic principle in which the glass is mobile and the walls are fixed has been reversed
Three containers are strategically placed on the road
For economic reasons, these prefabricated compact steel modules are used as an entrance, during the winter as storage they are positioned perpendicular to the house and also perform the function of a B&B
