New Bonfiglioli headquarters: innovation and sustainability in Bologna

The new Bonfiglioli headquarters is a model of industrial sustainability, thanks to a design that reflects the principles of circular economy and a structure ready to adapt to future business needs.

A sustainable project for the future of industry

Peter Pichler Architecture has recently completed the new headquarters of Bonfiglioli, located in Calderara di Reno, Bologna. This headquarters was born from the need to create an efficient and functional workspace that represents the values of the Italian company, a symbol of innovation and professionalism. Bonfiglioli, founded in 1956, is an international reference point in the production of gearmotors, power transmission systems, gearboxes, and inverters. Its solutions drive the industrial automation, mobile machinery, and renewable energy sectors.

EVO: the largest industrial site of the Bonfiglioli Group

The headquarters completes the EVO project, the largest industrial site of the Bonfiglioli Group in Italy. EVO is designed to meet the latest standards of energy efficiency, thanks to a 3 MW peak power photovoltaic system installed not only on the roofs of the new facilities, but also on the parking lot covers. The headquarters, designed as a NZEB (Nearly Zero Energy Building), uses geothermal heat pumps and radiant ceilings to optimize energy savings and improve internal comfort.

Sustainable Design and Integration with the Context

Designed to be a visual landmark, the new headquarters blends into the surrounding landscape through a sustainable architectural approach and intelligent geometry. The project draws inspiration from the courtyard typology of the neighboring buildings, including a green garden on the ground floor that promotes natural ventilation through a chimney effect. The sloping roof responds to natural light conditions, expanding the north facade to ensure indirectly illuminated workspaces.

Aluminum second skin: a tribute to corporate values

The facades facing south and the roof are covered with a second skin of pleated aluminum mesh, which filters intense light, providing a comfortable and energy-efficient indoor environment. This structure recalls the aesthetics of the gears produced by Bonfiglioli, and the material evokes the processing chips, creating a strong visual connection with the company's production activity.

Flexibility and design for corporate well-being

The building is designed to ensure maximum flexibility over time, with open spaces free of columns, thanks to the exoskeleton facade. The interiors promote collaboration and connectivity, with departments spread across different levels to facilitate interaction. Two sculptural steel spiral staircases symbolize the flow of ideas, connecting the floors and stimulating creative exchange.

Green Spaces and an Iconic View

Employee health and well-being are a priority: among many architectural projects, this one integrates large green spaces and maximizes indirect natural light to enhance the work environment. The sloping roof is divided into six terraces facing south, ideal for a reflective break, with a panoramic view of the Sanctuary of the Madonna di San Luca. This connection with the outside enriches the daily experience of those working in the building.
