Bostanlı Footbridge and Bostanlı Sunset Lounge are two architectural interventions located close to each other, together creating a new integrated coastal attraction, where the Bostanlı stream flows into the bay, in a very particular and unique point thanks to the geometric shape of the coast. The site has become one of Izmir's favorite public attraction points and has been viewed and visited by residents all over the city
In line with the decisions of the new master plan, the Bostanlı Footbridge was created to connect two sides of the Bostanlı Creek and then complete one of the missing pieces of the continuous coastal walk. With its slightly curved longitudinal section and the unique geometry of the beam, the bridge allows the passage of small boats below and provides access to the floating pier. This new urban structure has been designed with an asymmetrical cross-section, consisting of several cascading thermo-mobile surfaces, installed on a steel frame
Bostanlı Sunset Lounge, which extends over one of the few coastal fragments directly overlooking the west of Karşıyaka, is a series of covered thermoidal wooden platforms, extending between the artificial slope covered with trees and the embankment itself. The simplicity of the geometry of the surface encourages the user to experience a more direct relationship with the sea. This large surface is covered with ash wood, creating natural textures. The Sunset Lounge revives a long forgotten ritual: watching the sunset and spending time together in the late evening
These two urban installations support the general framework set out in the 'Karşıkıyı' proposal, the master plan for the Karşıyaka coast. Both want to create a new urban space to experiment with different forms of " leisure ", using the social, geographical and historical backgrounds of this unique position. These new coastal interventions are also perfectly in line with the "Easy Way of Living" vision established for the city of Izmir under the "IzmirSea" coastal regeneration project
A project to redevelop not only architecturally but above all socially: when a project fulfills the purpose of restoring a "soul" to a place
