Caraccard: innovation and tradition in Alpine architecture

Caraccard represents a reference point in contemporary alpine architecture, demonstrating how tradition can meet innovation in ways that respect and enhance the natural landscape, while offering unique and sustainable living experiences.

The essence of Caraccard: between tradition and landscape

The Caraccard takes its name from the raccard, a typical wooden building in the Swiss alpine arc, where breathtaking views and steep terrain drive bold and functional architectural decisions. This project, carried out by Chevallier Architectes, tackled the challenge of transforming an existing structural base into a chalet usable for most of the year, seamlessly integrating with the surrounding environment.

The challenge of building on steep terrain

Chevalier Architectes' vision has brought to life a chalet characterized by a 360° panoramic opening. The layout of the living spaces has been optimized to take advantage of the sunniest areas, with careful consideration of solar orientation and panoramic views. Caraccard's distinctive design, with its cantilevers and shelves, evokes the image of a solved Rubik's Cube, combining functionality and aesthetics into a single concept.

Technology and precision in construction

The attention to detail is evident in the care with which the continuous cladding on all facades was ensured, a complex customization work carried out by the agency to emphasize the compact appearance of the larch wood chalet. The management of the interior spaces, with their irregular cubes and challenging angles, required careful planning and the use of 3D rendering for the perfect alignment of the grids.

Installation of the Bovindo

One of the most memorable moments in the making of Caraccard was the installation of the large bovindo, an architectural element of considerable dimensions that transformed the construction site into a true event. This phase required the use of special machinery and highlighted Chevallier Architectes team's commitment to overcoming technical challenges to bring to life an uncompromising architectural vision.
