In the city of Elche, in the province of Alicante, the MESURA studio expands and transforms a traditional house from the 80s, reinterpreting the local building tradition, celebrating the external social culture, and restructuring a large plot of land.
The renovated villa is located amidst the fields of Matola, in the center of a large plot of land, with a swimming pool on one side and a tennis court on the other. Using self-supporting walls to define the spaces, the design studio Mesura, specialized in home renovation projects, expanded Casa IV by contextualizing it within the surrounding landscape, weaving together indoor and outdoor environments to the point of making them ambiguous.

The foundation of the renovation project is rooted in the observation and understanding of its surroundings: the warm and humid climate, the local traditions, the traditional architectural elements of the area such as the housing porch and the terrace that serves as the main outdoor communal space. The use of brick, for example, symbolizes the continuity with tradition, and, together with local ceramists, four brick lines and various compositions have been studied
With four simple walls, different spaces have been incorporated, such as the private bedroom and an open porch. A vaulted roof characterizes the architecture, creating movement, lightness, and broad undulations. The vaults are supported by brick walls, creating a system of natural ventilation
