House Zaire, renovation of a very small modernist apartment

Casa Zaire, a tiny house hidden in Rua do Zaire, in Porto, isolated from the street and urban life, is renovated by the Paulo Moreira Architectures studio, which reconsiders the internal connections between the spaces of the house.

The apartment's structure

This small apartment was once the residence of the building's caretaker.

On the ground floor, the project carried out by the studio Paulo Moreira Architectures specialized in house renovation, included a remodeling intervention of the connections between the entrance, bathroom, and living area. Along the outer walls, the kitchen, side balcony, and stairs connecting to the upper level were positioned, freeing up the central space for the dining table.

Materials and Daily Details

The tiled floor is maintained, even though it is worn. Various changes and improvements have been made to the bathroom, using simple and affordable materials. Small adjustments manage to create empathy between architecture and everyday objects.

Textures and colors

In the bedroom, storage spaces have been inserted that have created a difference in height and repositioned the bed. Particular attention has been paid to textures and materiality, creating unexpected relationships between the materials.
