Castle Lane: contemporary interpretation of the bow window

In a prominent London area, a traditional element of English architecture, the bow window, is being reinterpreted. In addition to serving as a point of dialogue between modernity and tradition, it is an innovative choice that expands the living space and creates a more seamless interaction with the outdoors.

The innovative reinterpretation of the bow window

The studio DROO Architects, author of numerous architecture projects, conceives Castle Lane, a residential complex that offers a new perspective on a recurring theme in English architecture, the bow window. The contemporary reinterpretation of the bow window features curved glass extending from the masonry facade, creating a distinctive visual effect that harmoniously integrates with the surrounding environment. Respect for tradition and modern reinterpretation add aesthetic and functional value to the entire complex.

The correspondence of the bow window with the living area

The bow window is strategically positioned in correspondence with the living rooms of each apartment, an environment where the visual connection with the outside is most pleasantly maintained, enhancing the living experience of the tenants. In addition to the internal design outcome, the designers also paid attention to the external one: the complex, developing on two streets of different character, had to interact with two different aesthetics. The result is a stylistic continuity that creates a coherent and unique design

The distinctive curved glass

Convex and concave curves alternate in the sequence of curved glass, offering larger interior spaces and an external visual dynamic that departs from traditional straight lines. The same brick echoes the rooted construction techniques of the area, alongside an innovative material like curved glass. A combination of elements that respect the historical context by introducing an architectural challenge that updates and enriches the visual language of the neighborhood.
