Designed to be enjoyed throughout the seasons, the clients of Out of the Valley Studio wanted to create a space for recreation and refreshment whose form and materials would recall and harmonise with the main house
Atmospheres to relax and socialize. A cedar cabin revives the holiday home garden
The enchanting garden of a holiday property in South Hams, Devon, is home to a cedar log cabin: 15 square metres of space wonderfully complementary to traditional living, made possible by the cosy atmosphere and meticulous attention to detail
Clad in local cedar, this cosy shelter is built to provide an alternative space, which is in direct dialogue with nature outside to enjoy time together and socialise. A drinks preparation area and a covered porch equipped with a barbecue ensure that the small building spontaneously becomes the ideal place for long and leisurely lunches in summer
In cooler weather, a wood-burning stove and under-floor heating installed under the pleasant wooden floor make the cabin a cosy corner of the world in which to read and play board games. A wrap-around bench, carefully adapted to the space, forms a comfortable place from which to enjoy a majestic view of the valley through the sliding oak doors that open the elevation to the southern sun
Once neglected, the garden is brought back to life by the presence of the cabin which the owners call "a work of art" for its ability to revive the place, making it a new attraction when living on the estate and also to offer relaxation and festive occasions in equal measure
