Civil Protection Center Renon. Sculptural symbol of collaboration

In the province of Bolzano, in the hamlet of Collalbo, in 2020 the construction of the new Civil Protection Center of Renon was completed: an efficient "home", Class A Climate House, shared by the Fire Brigade, Alpine Rescue and White Cross, allowing them to collaborate directly

A two-story volume with contemporary language

Roland Baldi Architects, known for several architectural projects that have contributed to the revival of Collalbo, also designed the new headquarters for emergency organizations: the Renon Civil Protection Center is a simple yet sculptural building that conveys the concept of "strength through collaboration." It integrates into the natural slope of the site and its two-story volume with contemporary language contrasts with the typical rural architectural style of the area

Materiality of compacted concrete with interplay of solids and transparencies

Even though the lines of contemporary architectural composition contrast with the traditional context, the sense of continuity with the majestic mountain landscape is ensured by the building's facade made of compacted concrete with a reddish hue that recalls the famous Earth Pyramids of Renon. The materiality of the envelope plays with the transparencies of the window openings, and the simplicity of the volume is enriched by the vibrant and layered texture of the external finish

Paths for maximum efficiency

A thorough study has been conducted to organize the internal paths in order to achieve maximum efficiency: in the basement, the garages of the three organizations open onto the training courtyard served by a road exclusively for emergency vehicles. The garages, each connected to their own changing rooms and facilities, are accessible from the common staircase located in the center of the building. The two command rooms of the Alpine Rescue and Fire Brigade are adjacent and can be combined for large-scale operations

The floor plan layout

From the main entrance on the ground floor, you enter the spacious reception area with a training room open to the public. A central corridor leads to separate administrative rooms; warehouses, offices, and dormitories are located towards the north, while the training rooms, recreational spaces, and rooms for young people are towards the south. This side of the building opens up to large terraces that project the landscape inside
