Demolition and reconstruction of a single-family home on a hill: Casa LP+2

Casa LP+2 is a single-family home nestled in the hills around Reggio Emilia, Italy. It stands in place of the completely demolished pre-existing structure, embodying the design principles of the studio that conceived it

Residential architecture project in the Emilian countryside

The Archetipo studio has been dealing with industrial and residential architecture projects since 1992. For Casa LP+2, they managed the project from the initial design to the complete demolition of the original building on the lot, up to the completion of the new residence in 2011. The land where Casa LP+2 is located is immersed in the lush hills of the Emilian countryside, offering residents relaxing views just a few kilometers away from the conveniences of urban centers

Game of materials and geometries gradually revealed

The new building features a large gable roof with a wooden structure that, with its deep eaves, supported by columns clad in exposed bricks, creates a protective porch with ample covered spaces. At first glance, from the front, Casa LP+2 appears to be a typical construction of the Italian countryside, clad in stone and with a monolithic volume, but as you walk around it, you discover glimpses of contemporaneity with large windows and wooden surfaces that create an interesting and unexpected game of materials and geometries

The interiors: exposed structural elements, unusual inclined planes, and a modern-classic mix of furnishings

Constructed with a reinforced concrete structure, Casa LP+2 houses internally spaces energized by exposed structural elements, such as ceiling beams, and by the modern-classic mix of furnishings, both fixed and movable. The large kitchen island and the bookcase that divides the space in the living area create unusual inclined planes that uniquely characterize the space. A wall that seems to deconstruct in front of the eyes accompanies the internal staircase. Wood, white, and accents of dark gray and burgundy create the moodboard of the project
