Design to restore space and light in the Quai Du Rhone apartment

An apartment dominated by blind corridors and unoriginal floor plan layout is transformed into a bright residence with open spaces and stylish accents

The banks of the Rhône River and the Confluences Museum

Regis Lannoy, author of numerous interior design projects, is commissioned to restyle the Quai Du Rhone apartment in Lyon: a residence of about 80 square meters inside an 80s building overlooking the banks of the Rhône river, near the Confluences Museum. Its location, its view, and the potential of the space are the strengths of the project

The original floor plan layout

The Quai Du Rhone apartment in its original floor plan layout was characterized by two blind corridors that distributed the spaces: one led from the entrance to the living area, the other, accessed from the first one, led to the bedrooms. Also, in a classic distribution, there were two bedrooms, divided by a bathroom and a French-style toilet

The new spaces: light and spaciousness

The renovation involved removing the entrance hallway to give more space to the living room and moving the kitchen to replace one of the bedrooms, in order to annex it to the living room in a more contemporary and fluid layout. The result is to make the apartment appear much larger and allow for the maximum enjoyment of natural light

A deep aesthetic refresh

In addition to the new floor plan layout, a deep aesthetic refresh has been carried out: the floors have been newly made and the apartment is now dominated by the golden tones of the herringbone parquet and the wood of the custom-designed furniture inserts. A petrol-colored peninsula extends from the kitchen area to the living room creating a fresh diversion. Translucent walls divide with a see-through effect and the concrete partitions, polished and brought back to light, give character to the whole space
