Double identity of the MGallery hotel at Palazzo Tirso in Cagliari

The hotel offer in the city of Cagliari, on the island of Sardinia, Italy, is enriched by a prestigious novelty: the monumental Palazzo Tirso from the 1920s is being transformed into a new 5-star hotel with a refined interior architecture project that speaks of the tactile experience of space, aesthetics of color, and asymmetry, all in total respect of history

Historical Identity and Contemporary Logics

The curators of the wonderful transformation are Armando Bruno, founding Partner & CEO of Studio Marco Piva, and Ferdinando Tedesco, Chief Interior Designer, who, commissioned by the Puddu Costruzioni Group, the new owners of Palazzo Tirso, have created a customized design based on the authenticity of the place. Preserving the historical identity of the building, formerly the headquarters of the Società Elettrica Sarda, contemporary logics have been incorporated inside to offer an experience of comfort and modernity along with the opportunity to savor the charm of the past

Color, tactile experience of space, and asymmetry

All the spaces of the new prestigious hotel of the Accor chain are permeated by an aesthetic of color studied in detail that draws on the colors of the city: it is possible to find references to the botanical garden, ancient religious architectures, and modern architectural works. But the project does not only satisfy the sense of sight, but also dedicates itself to the tactile aspect of the experience, inviting guests to interact with the spaces by experiencing them more intimately: the surfaces of the materials are treated with special and unprecedented processes. Finally, with an asymmetry that obsessively emerges in all spaces and furnishings, the designers want to tell the double identity of Palazzo Tirso

Palazzo Tirso in relation to the city

The new MGallery Palazzo Tirso is designed to interact with the urban fabric, offering spaces for socializing and comfort to both hotel guests and citizens. On the ground floor, guests are welcomed by the reception, bar, and the Terra restaurant. Most of the furnishings, including the bar and restaurant counters, were custom-made according to the design by Studio Marco Piva. On the same floor, a business area offers a divisible meeting room, a Wine Cellar space that also provides the possibility of private gatherings, and a meeting room for informal meetings

Two-level suite and rooftop

In the basement is the wellness area with reception, gym, pool, sauna, Turkish bath, and three treatment rooms. The use of stone, the exposed existing beams integrated into a new geometry, and the traditional finishing techniques used keep alive the connection with the territory and the history of the building. From the first to the fourth floor are the 85 rooms, completely custom-furnished. The fourth floor is dedicated to the 8 suites and the Presidential Suite, developed on two levels with sizes ranging from 70 to 120 square meters. A unique city experience is offered by the rooftop: a striking glass "greenhouse" houses the covered part of the Cielo restaurant which continues onto the terrace with a bar and lounge areas. A pink pool crowns and testifies to the new innovative soul of Palazzo Tirso
