Dujiangyan Zhongshuge: the surreal library in China for booklovers

X + Living carries out this project inspired by tradition and gives importance to the book as a cultural and historical heritage for a culture. The architecture seems to move like a forest where the "trees" are the books themselves that create hidden paths

The dreamlike architectural narrative

In the city of Dujiangyan with over a thousand years of history and culture, X + Living has injected new vitality by creating a paradise for book lovers. The studio, specialized in innovative interior design projects, has realized this incredible work by incorporating ceiling with mirrors in the upper part and in the lower part black glossy floors that reflect the shelving: the artistic effect is completely surreal.
The Chinese library that leaves us breathless. At the entrance, one is immediately greeted by C-shaped shelves in a natural walnut color. The seemingly irregular sequence builds the intimacy of the space and becomes a highlight in the entrance hall.

The space of reading takes shape

The unique and lively shape of the arch creates a new path and subtly divides the forum area. Walking under the shelf is like walking along an open gutter, or entering a mountain, wandering among the books, it seems like time slows down. Entering the reading space, one perceives the images of a different "landscape" from traditional libraries and the deep cultural heritage.

Children's Reading Room, Colors and Dreams

Walking through the winding path between the library wall, the children's reading area suddenly appears. The random and irregular green bamboo has been transformed into shelves. The designer decorates the children's area with the panda element, which climbs on branches, creating an artistic and natural conception. Looking down, colorful cushions are stacked like hills, creating a charming and dreamy reading atmosphere for children.

Architectural elements that expand space and time

In the Central Literature District, the designer uses a mirrored ceiling to visually expand spatial flexibility and create an open and lofty feeling. The library wall, inspired by the magnificent Dujiangyan dam, extends upwards, like a super wall built with historical culture, serving as a functional support for the books.
