Esker Haus is a self-contained residential unit located above a pre-existing 1960 house in San Candido, Italy. The flat consists of a series of steel and wooden frames that bend to recreate the soft hills of the surrounding Dolomites. This partially accessible rooftop also determines the spatial character of the interior; the spaces unfold through a series of angular and dynamic planes creating new perspectives.

The project was developed by the Architects of Plasma Studio as a parasite that adopts the structure of its host and gradually distorts it to adapt to a unique organisation.
The organisation is arranged on two levels. The spatial character is provided by the interweaving of various volumes that at the same time develop in relation to the external landscape. They intertwine with each other, from the more private area of the bedroom and bathroom, to the kitchen, dining room and living room to the outdoor spaces of the terrace.
The interior spaces are a reflection of the external geometry designed with a more fluid and smooth morphology of the roof plan. Through its openings, the building frames the surrounding mountains and receives sunlight all day long.
