Inspired by the childlike image of a house, precisely to stimulate a sense of security and a friendly environment for children, the new Sluderno kindergarten combines energy efficiency and architecture with clear lines that harmonize with the surroundings

Iconography of the house for a friendly and familiar school

The Roland Baldi Architects studio won the 2011 architecture projects competition for the new construction of the Sluderno kindergarten school, located in a valley in South Tyrol that connects Italy, Austria, and Switzerland. Here, the extremely well-kept landscape and sustainable development, together with attention to architecture, contribute to the high quality of life. In this context, the school, completed in 2018, fits in with its pitched roof and large staggered windows, resembling a child's drawing of a house with a friendly and familiar effect

Distribution of educational and play spaces

The school is accessed from a small square that is part of a larger pedestrian area. Inside, a bright foyer, functional heart but also space for welcoming and playing, welcomes visitors and distributes all the educational and play spaces. Towards the outdoor play area and the gardens to the south, the ground floor classrooms dedicated to group activities and support open up. Upstairs, thanks to the play of heights of the sloping roof, there is a special and articulated space

Wood and colors to induce feelings of security

The entire school is built with structural wood panels, plastered on the facades. Wood is also used on the outside in the window frames and entrance cuts, and on the inside as a finishing material. Custom-designed furniture is also made of wood; these are designed in conjunction with the colors used for walls, fabrics, and various inserts, to generate feelings of security in the children. The building is completed by a green roof which, together with the energy standards of " Casa Clima A " used, increases the environmental sustainability of the project
