House Ferskûle, a diverse mosaic of places and moments

In one of the most beautiful spots of a small holiday village on the island of Schiermonnikoog, in the Netherlands, the holiday home Ferskûle offers, as its name suggests, which means "hidden", a multitude of spaces with a delicate design where you can snuggle up, lie down, look out and find new perspectives or total relaxation

Spaces that maximize experiences and atmospheres

The urban planning regulations impose a maximum gross construction of 110 square meters on the island within a well-defined area. Within this compact perimeter, the design studio Denkkamer, author of several architecture projects, brings to life a holiday home: Ferskûle, a diversified mosaic of places and moments. A design gem that characterizes the realization is the bow window, in the heart of the house, where one can lie down. Each space has its own character and different qualities as the hours and seasons change.

The design gem of Ferskûle, the bow window

A bow window where you can lie down is located in the central space of the house, where there is also a spacious kitchen with a dining table, a sunken living room with a wood-burning fireplace, and views of the surroundings. The house also features a study with a panoramic view like a birdwatcher's hut. The bedrooms have views of the starry sky, a niche recessed in the external facade like a wicker beach chair, and an intimate outdoor lounge carved into the basement of the house: the new holiday home is full of special and surprising places.

The choice of materials: focus on consistency and tactility

The materials selected for the Ferskûle house have been chosen with great care, taking into account their consistency, tactility, and connection to the surrounding environment. Drawing inspiration from the materiality of the island and the sensation offered by the Wadden Sea, the architects aimed to create a deep bond between the architecture and the landscape. On the outside, the house appears solid and resilient, capable of facing the salty and aggressive marine climate typical of the area, protecting the interiors from any harsh weather conditions. Inside, the Ferskûle holiday home transforms into a cozy retreat, where velvety surfaces and warm tones envelop guests in a comfort embrace. Like a fine, soft sweater, the interiors offer a delicate contrast with the exterior, creating a relaxing environment that invites rest and well-being, in harmony with the natural beauty that surrounds it.
