The Hungarian architect Attila B, founder of Béres Architects Ltd, has built a wooden villa on the outskirts of Kőszeg, whose features are outlined and strongly emphasized by the location in which it is built: the site of an ancient quarry where the imposing rock face becomes a scenic background of great impact
Wooden villa in Hungary. The Rocky Wall becomes the scenic protagonist
On the outskirts of Kőszeg, an enchanting historic city in Hungary, architect Attila Béres creates a wooden villa in which the external rock wall becomes the main attraction, creating a pleasant contrast with the warm naturalness of the wood

The building is placed about ten meters above the road that runs along the valley floor, so you can get enough sunlight throughout the year while remaining close to the rock face. The impression, from afar, is that the house "floats" above the natural ground
The villa consists of two units connected by a thick black frame, between which there is the covered outdoor terrace that becomes the central space of the house with a view of the rocks and the woods to the south
On the surface of 110 square meters large and shaded openings alternate both towards the panoramic view to the south and towards the imposing views of the rock to the north. The factors influencing the layout of the spaces are in fact the natural light and the view of the surrounding environment
The building is located in a town with a very diverse climate, with very hot summers and particularly cold winters: functional architectural solutions are therefore adopted so that the cabin maintains a comfortable temperature in all seasons. The combination of high-tech yet easy-to-use solutions results in extremely low energy consumption and moderate construction costs
The interior walls are light white in color, reflecting the random colors of the sky and the surrounding environment. The black-stained raw larch of the exterior surfaces creates a sharp and pleasant contrast with the same material with a natural finish and a smooth surface inside
he natural elements are harmoniously intertwined giving life to a welcoming family shelter where the boundaries between the external and internal environment dissolve in the alternation of materials and colors
