Thanks to Bajet Giramé + Burckhardt the old flat regains its lost character: the hidden qualities of 1970s architecture are brought back to light and a series of evocative settings are defined. The Home in Mitre project unveils the idea of an open floor plan, leaving columns and steel beams exposed and uncovering the gentle, traditional vaults of the ceiling
Rediscovering the sense and beauty of space in a 1970s flat

Previously the space was organised into a series of small rooms and corridors with definitive functions, shaped by non-load-bearing walls. By demolishing the walls, a permanent envelope is defined within where habitable rooms will be arranged through small interventions. Wood is used to emphasise the separation between space and structure
The result is a house that appears much larger, brighter, with endless views and large wooden wardrobes. The beauty of the space finally emerges, the sequence of rooms is much clearer and more meaningful
