In the heart of Budapest, at 8 Andrássy út, the new Moments Hotel, better known as "Schossberger Palace", boasts a glorious past and the status of a real urban monument, with its imposing façade inspired by the Italian Renaissance, precious frescoes and wrought iron parapets
New Hotel in Budapest. The restyling of an urban monument
Two centuries ago, it was one of the most important buildings in the Hungarian capital. Its owner was a rich trader of tobacco, sugar and wheat and its designer, Adolf Feszty, was the most famous architect in the country
All the inhabitants know the history of the Moments Hotel and its alternating uses: from the headquarters of its founder to the first cinema of the city, to later becoming a bank and then the venue of many clubs. However, none of them were able to modify its layout, which was maintained, indeed highlighted by the latest renovation by Archikon in collaboration with the architect Csaba Nagy
The accommodation structure retains its original elegant layout, centred on a covered patio around which the rooms and the collective functions take place and the nineteenthcentury decorative details are harmoniously combined with optical textures, contemporary materials and designer furnishings
These include the seats of Alma Design which, together with the Hungarian collaborator Eszter Partners, participated in the ambitious project of transforming the former "Schossberger Palace" into one of the most popular destinations in the international hotel industry
The X Chair and X Stool models, icons designed by Mario Mazzer, furnish the bar/restaurant area, which directly overlooks the street and is embellished by a long wall studded with identical small drawers, some of which are designed, others are real, open and integrated with the lighting. X Chair has a base made of ash wood stained walnut and shell made of military green polypropylene, with padding covered in sand-coloured fabric. The stools, on the other hand, have been chosen with an internal covering in shades of sand but with a white frame and structure made of natural ash
The reference to the sign of the X, the identity motif of the Alma Design collection of the same name, is therefore coordinated within the Moments Hotel with a multiplicity of geometric elements for a result aimed at evoking a renewed Art Deco style, where the accuracy of every detail and every colour combination is the leitmotif of the design concept
