By adapting to the various existing buildings, the hotel has an irregular configuration. OHLAB's renovation project uses this complexity as a potential tool to generate unusual and unique spaces where each room is different from the other. The project addresses each room with unique and customized layouts and solutions. The selection of natural and local materials that underline the Mediterranean essence was very important
Renovation of the Boutique Hotel in Palma de Mallorca. Urban oasis with local roots
Boutique hotel with 22 rooms located in the heart of La Lonja, in the historic center of Palma, renovated by OHLAB Studio that highlights the existing space by creating customized and unique environments
Another important objective was the designing of the bathrooms as pleasure spaces, spacious and integrated with the bedrooms, with generous, sculptural and self-supporting bathtubs placed in the bedrooms just like another piece of furniture
The artist Pedro Oliver has worked closely with OHLAB producing a special painting work for this project, a series of customized wall paintings are strategically placed in each room
Puro is defined as an urban oasis, cosmopolitan and contemporary but with local roots that make it unique. A simple palette of natural materials is a constant throughout the project: oak wood, concrete sinks and bathroom walls, renovated rock stone walls - the traditional limestone used in traditional Mallorcan architecture, natural hemp ropes, stainless steel switches and accessories, aged leather, linen, cotton, fabrics designed by OHLAB and produced on old Mallorcan looms for upholstery, cushions and plaids, raffia carpets and wicker baskets produced locally, etc. In addition, the solid mandala wooden doors, which have been the hallmark of the hotel since its origins, have been refurbished
Most of the furniture was designed specifically by OHLAB for the hotel. Beds, headboards, benches, pure and simple designs integrate into the room creating a relaxed and comfortable lounge atmosphere. Outside this designed furniture, it is worth highlighting a series of aged bronze pieces inspired by the traditional metal trolleys used by baggage handlers, which replace the old wardrobes, desks, minibar and support furniture
The new maxi bar cart, included in this series, includes the most playful objects in the room and works like a fragment of a genuine bar with all the necessary tools to create the best cocktails in the room
