The new building, designed by Avanto Architect Ltd, stands on the footprint of an old villa demolished due to its poor condition. The mass, the shape of the roof, the height and the facade materials of Pokrinniemi House were studied to be in harmony with the surrounding old buildings
Pokrinniemi House and its original cross-shaped space. Four different views of the precious landscape
The location of the Pokrinniemi House is unique: even though it is only a couple of kilometers from the center of the Finnish city of Hämeenlinna, the house sits on a small promontory surrounded by a lake from which a precious natural panorama can be enjoyed. Precisely for the protection of this, the general plan of the city has established strict rules for new buildings

The volume of the house, externally square-shaped, hides inside an original cross-shaped open space like the "Four Cornered Villa" that the architectural studio had previously designed; thanks to this layout, the large central space enjoys interesting views in four different directions from the openings at its ends
The enclosed rooms of the house are arranged between the four orthogonal arms of the open space. The light that penetrates from the outside constantly changes as the sun revolves around the building. The five-meter high central space, where the four wings meet, also receives light from a skylight
In the heart of the house, a grand piano tells the vocation of the musician, the father of the family with three children who live in Pokrinniemi House. In the basement, there are spaces dedicated to the sauna, a room with a fireplace, a workshop, and a room for playing music
