An old single-story bungalow, poorly insulated and with 1/4 of its volume, is occupied by an underutilized internal garage. The new owners' family of TL House desires optimized energy performance and renovated spaces.
The WE-S architecten studio, in charge of the renovation project of TL House, plans for a maximum expansion of 459 cubic meters, spread over one floor and oriented east-west. Within the new volume, a new covered parking space is planned at the front of the house.
To ensure optimal entry of natural light into the existing building, a portion of the volume is cut, serving as a covered terrace sheltered from the western wind.
The project aims to integrate the bungalow into its environment with a certain simplicity of planning and materiality. The variable heights play a game of compression and decompression, with its center of gravity in the double-height living space.
