In Manchester, UK, Mecanoo completes the KAMPUS project, which celebrates the city's vibrancy and diversity with respect to Canal Street. The architecture is expressed through height variations, making each façade legible, where alternating positions of the openings reduce the scale of the brick mass.
Red bricks and an interplay of openings for the new KAMPUS district
KAMPUS, the new neighborhood located in the former campus of Manchester Metropolitan University, is a game of pixels: red bricks, alternating openings, accentuated make the facades of the buildings the undisputed protagonists of the project

At the horizontal level, the buildings are divided into three elements: a podium with metal cladding and dark profile, a section with rough-textured red brick, and a roof also clad in profiled metal. The ground floor podium creates a defined edge from the street
A variety of independent cafes, bars, stores and restaurants create a unique sense of place. The entrance to KAMPUS occurs amidst a series of green spaces, the heart of the project, that are the perfect backdrop for social events
