Nestled among the hills overlooking Lake Maggiore, the design of this resort stems from the unique and varied landscape of Ticino, a region in southern Switzerland where Alpine peaks and dense forests meet a Mediterranean climate and Italian architectural and cultural influence
The first site increases an existing urban context. Working in partnership with the local community, the project adds a new core to the existing village by bringing visitors to the neighboring location and showcasing local specialties
The second site is a reinvented botanical garden setting that features lush landscaping as a backdrop to an exclusive boutique hotel and spa consisting of individual villas and hillside spas. Pergolas, orchards, and cascading pools embrace the Mediterranean microclimate, offering all-season comfort in the summer sun
The project's material palette is based on locally mined granite, chestnut wood reclaimed from disused barns, fallen trees and stucco made from regional aggregates. Local craftsmanship blends into the design with cutting-edge techniques, creating unique settings characterized by simple geometries as the architecture of three sites forms a harmonious composition across the landscape
Each of the structures is designed with a sensitivity to sunlight exposure, framing picturesque views of the valley, lake and mountains. Together, the design creates a varied experience that leads residents and guests through Ticino's richly layered landscape and fosters deep connections between people and the extraordinary natural ecosystem
