Lavender in Valdarno. The renovation of two residential units out in the Tuscan countryside

From the passionate search for the right property in the area surrounding the upper Valdarno (Arezzo) comes Lavanda in Valdarno, the renovation project developed for a couple of clients for the realization of two buildings, both distributed on two levels: a larger one, the "villa," for the family and the other somewhat smaller, the "barn," a precious guest house

The architect Filippo Bombace, who is in charge of the renovation project of Lavanda in Valdarno, finds himself responding for the exteriors of the two units to the requests of the superintendence to reconstruct the local stylistic characters through autochthonous materials; while inside, the absence of particular constraints allows to give vent to the clients' desire for modernity: the project thus becomes a careful balancing act between modern and rural that outlines the character of the two distinct buildings

In the barn we thus find the traditional tones of the area: the stone cladding, the terracotta flooring and jellies, the exposed wood floors and roof, juxtaposed with more contemporary choices such as the corten staircase, the serena stone fireplace with minimal geometries and the furnishings, almost always characterized by the use of wood, used, however, according to a contemporary language

In the villa, the large double-height space is the absolute protagonist of the dwelling, pierced by the suspended fireplace juxtaposed with the island sofa composition.
On the other hand, the staircase leading to the first floor splits its path with the use of the three materials that connote somewhat the whole operation: the cement gray of the resin flooring, the elm wood of the furniture, and finally the black lacquer of the last ramp

Contrasting the monumental severity of the complex staircase organism is the lightness of the lavender-blue used for the lacquering of the dining area: combined with the elm wood, it draws the pleasant juxtaposition that grants the right serenity to the interior and exterior spaces of the property. An efficient plant layout to make the building organism as autonomous as possible, along with the vegetable garden and the beautiful swimming pool with a gray "pietra serena" backdrop complete the comfort of the two dwellings
