The Wooden Living Unit is the result of research by architects OFIS & Permiz, C+C, C28 and AKT II to develop a freestanding, flexible wooden shell that can be adapted to different locations, climatic and soil conditions
The Wooden Living Unit. A flexible architectural module for living and much more
The Wooden Living Unit can be a mini vacation home, a shelter to hide away in, a tree house, or a temporary dwelling for research, tourism, or shelter in emergencies; its small size allows it to be easily transported anywhere

The basic unit (4.50m X 2.50m X 2.70m) contains a complete living quarters with kitchen, bathroom, bed and seating; due to its design it can join horizontally or vertically with other modules forming larger and more complex structures
The structure is made of wooden frames reinforced by plywood panels and can be fixed to the ground with steel anchors or removable concrete cubes. The interior of the cabins is variable and flexible, and the furnishings can change according to the required function
One use of the cabin has been as a temporary library at Ljubljana Castle: in this case the modules are assembled vertically and each floor will contain books on different topics. Visitors will find corners for reading and resting with a beautiful view of the city. The facility also promotes Slovenian woodworking and traditional skills of handcrafted carpentry and joinery
