L'architettura della Louny Municipal Swimming Hall comunica attraverso la sua struttura e il suo design.

The building of the municipal swimming pool in Louny, Czech Republic, with its sharp and angular exterior lines and its sinuous and warm interior lines, is a surprise for passersby. The facades with dynamic shapes hide its interior on three sides, while towards the south they open up to create a large public space visible from the street.

The contrast between interior and exterior

The building of the Louny public swimming pool, designed by dkarchitekti, a studio specialized in unconventional architecture projects, is closed on three sides while opening widely to the south into a public space, a small park.
Its dynamic shape communicates and reveals the world it encloses through a glass wall. The exceptional overhang of the sloping roof surface with the sharp row of side facades separates two worlds that, although in contrast, coexist: one, the interior of the pool, tinted in blue and wood where people are in swimwear, and the other, exterior, where passersby dressed in warm winter clothes watch shivering bathers.

The invitation to access the structure

The tension between these two worlds is reflected in the rippled glass facade facing the public space adjacent to the neighboring municipal buildings. Through this mutual interaction that reveals, with a twist, the secret of movement, local residents are invited to spend their free time actively, engaging in physical activities.

The structure

The significant slope of the roof, corresponding to the slope of the terrain, provides the necessary height for the pool room, while its overhang regulates the penetration of sunlight in different seasons. On the north side of the object, the roof height adapts to the reduced one for the poolside bar, for the shower and sauna space. This erupts from the crystal mass with its cooling terrace on the colder side of the building with a view of the Central Bohemian Mountains.

Exposed Interior

The basement is dedicated to technical rooms and storage space, following and exploiting the slope of the terrain to minimize excavation works for construction. The ground floor is exclusively dedicated to the world of water and sauna, with a refreshment point at the pool bar. On the west side of the building, there is an outdoor hot tub and a water slide that overlooks the city's main street.
The architecture of the Louny public swimming pool aims to go beyond the usual solutions used for this type of facility, which typically hide the view from both inside and outside. On the contrary, this bathing area opens up with a glass front facade, inviting passersby to participate in the sports activities inside
