Louny's municipal swimming pool building, designed by dkarchitekti, is enclosed on three sides while opening widely to the south into a public space, a small park. Its dynamic form reveals from a crystal wall the world it encloses within. The exceptional overhang of the sloping roof surface with the sharp threading of side facades separates two worlds that, though contrasting, coexist: one, the interior of the pool, tinged with blue and wood where people are in bathing suits, and the other, outside, where passersby dressed in warm winter clothes shiveringly watch the bathers
Louny municipal swimming pool is like a sharp rock revealing its precious heart for the well-being of citizens
The municipal swimming pool building in Louny, Czech Republic, with its sharp, angular exterior lines and sinuous, warm interior lines, is a surprise to passersby. Dynamically shaped facades conceal its interior on three sides, while toward the south they open up to create a large public space visible from the street

The tension between these two worlds is reflected in the rippled glass facade that faces the public space bordering the nearby municipal buildings. Through this mutual interaction that reveals, with a twist, the secret of movement, local residents are invited to spend their leisure time actively, engaging in physical activities
The significant slope of the roof, corresponding to the slope of the land, provides the necessary height for the pool hall, while its overhang regulates the penetration of sunlight in different seasons. On the north side of the object, the height of the roof matches the reduced height for the pool bar, shower and sauna space. This erupts from the crystal mass with its cooling terrace on the cooler side of the building with a view of the central Bohemian mountains
The basement, dedicated to technical rooms and archive space, also follows and takes advantage of the slope of the land while minimizing the excavation work for construction. The ground floor is dedicated exclusively to the water and sauna world with a refreshment area at the pool bar. On the west side of the building is an outdoor whirlpool and a water slide that towers over the city's main street. Louny's municipal swimming pool building wants to go beyond the usual solutions used for this type of facility, which are typical for hiding the view from both those inside and those outside. Instead, this swimming hall opens up with the main glass facade and invites passersby to participate in the sports activities inside.
