From the unique series of bridges designed by NEXT, the Lucky Knot for the Chinese megalopolis Changsha maintains its architectural canons: it engages with the social context and offers new perspectives.
The new pedestrian bridge made of steel called Lucky Knot, built over the Dragon King Harbour river in the rapidly expanding New Lake District, is 185 meters long and 24 meters high and has already become an icon: CNN has selected it as one of the most spectacular bridges with innovative design. Designed by Next architects (Pechino team), it is one of the most iconic urban architecture projects in the country.

Designed to accommodate recreational, ecological, and touristic activities, the bridge connects multiple levels at different heights (the river banks, the road, the park at the highest level) literally and metaphorically tying them together.
The shape of the Lucky Knot was inspired by the principle of the Möbius strip, as well as by the art of the Chinese knot. "In ancient Chinese decorative folk art, the knot symbolizes luck and prosperity," says John van de Water (NEXT architects Beijing team).
The Lucky Knot is more than just a bridge and a connection between two riverbanks. Its success lies in bringing together cultures and merging history, technology, art, innovation, architecture, and spectacle," adds Jiang Xiaofei (NEXT architects Beijing team).
The Lucky Knot connects, illuminates, and entertains. The bridge offers a spectacular view of the river, Meixi Lake, the city of Changsha, and the surrounding mountain range. Thanks to its extraordinary LED light show, the bridge is set to become a landmark in the light path that traces the Dragon King Harbour riverbed.
