After the creation of the LUMA Foundation in 2004, dedicated to supporting contemporary artistic creation, in 2013 founder Maja Hoffmann launched the LUMA Arles project at Parc des Ateliers: a creative campus that offers artists new perspectives to create, collaborate and present their work to the public
LUMA Arles at Parc des Ateliers. An interdisciplinary and creative campus at the service of artists and the community
LUMA Arles at the Parc des Ateliers, "If there is an image, a metaphor for this 21st century institution , it is that of a living organism. A place where the question is no longer whether spaces are open or closed but how they function in the present moment: a place where always, somewhere, something is happening. A biological archipelago..." Maia Hoffmann

LUMA Arles is an interdisciplinary creative campus where, through exhibitions, conferences, performing arts, architecture, and design, thinkers, artists, researchers, and scientists question the relationships between art, culture, the environment, human rights, and research. A place of production and experimentation for both artists and the general public, LUMA Arles hosts annual exhibitions of major artists, works by major figures in contemporary creation, specific commissions, and in situ projects . Artists' archives, photographers or exhibitions are accessible here on terms worthy of the largest institutions
The Parc des Ateliers, the physical site of the LUMA Arles project, is a former workshop and railway junction of 11 hectares. On this site, dialogue in perfect harmony The Frank Gehry-designed Tower and seven former 19th-century industrial heritage factories. The establishment of this creative campus in the Parc des Ateliers required a reorganization and transformation of spaces in order to achieve maximum flexibility for research and artistic production
The renovation of several industrial buildings in the Parc des Ateliers was entrusted to Selldorf Architects. Les Forges , La Cour des Forges, La Mécanique Générale , La Formation and Le Médico-Social are now intended for different uses such as hosting exhibitions, presentations or even hosting artist residencies. The Frank Gehry-designed Tower complements these spaces and offers new perspectives on the venue's artistic programming
The gardens , park and pond surrounding the campus are the work of landscape architect Bas Smets. Conceived as a journey through the fauna and flora that inhabit it, the 4-hectare park is a place of life, exchange and recreation open to all. In walks through the park, works, sculptures or installations are revealed as they are made, expanding the exhibition space to be discovered
