The site where the project is located is situated 100 km southeast of Montréal, not too far from urban life and at the same time immersed in the beauty of nature.

Near the city but not too close

Forest House is one of the architecture projects by the Natalie Dionne Architecture studio, designed to pay homage to the surrounding forest, especially through the use of wood, which is present in every corner of the house, aiming for symbiosis with the surrounding environment. Wood, which dominates the palette of materials, is found both inside and outside. The exposed structure and various finishes showcase the richness of the natural material.

Design solutions

To maximize the available light and views, the housing units are elevated on a hollow thanks to a minimal structure, which ensures minimal impact on the existing terrain. The main floor, the heart of the project, hovers above the rocky cleft, projecting a large terrace towards the cliff.

Connection with the forest

From the outdoor area, dedicated to relaxation and the outdoor villa, you move to the interiors: kitchen, dining room, living room, bedroom, located at the southern end. The living area is glassed from floor to ceiling, flooded with natural light. To the east, the spectacular slope ensures a panoramic view of the forest.

Chromatic harmony with the context

The structure of the exposed roof is made of black spruce wood from northern Quebec. Special attention has been given to the facades clad in eastern white cedar, pre-treated with a product that accelerates the graying process, in order to blend into the landscape and minimize future maintenance.
