Matanzas Cabins La Loica and La Tagua, the vacation home overlooking the ocean

La Loica & La Tagua, two vacation homes nestled on the Chilean coast in the town of Matanzas, designed by Croxatto y Opazo Arquitectos, blend with the surrounding nature and "dominate" it at the same time, from a height of 80 meters above sea level.

Mastering and Rediscovering Nature

The idea of a holiday home on the coast translates into the project of two wooden cabins, La Loica & La Tagua, located about two hours from Santiago, created by the Chilean architecture firm Croxatto y Opazo Arquitectos. Situated on the Lagunilla hill, the cabins overlook the “Lobera”, a large rocky outcrop extending into the sea, home to sea lions and native species.

Even the project's name is in harmony with nature

La Loica & La Tagua were both named in honor of native bird species in the region, positioned on the slope using a structure of wooden pylons to support the main platform on which the entire project is developed. The buildings, entirely made of wood, feature 20 sqm for La Loica and 25 sqm for La Tagua.

Cabin Interiors

The studio, specialized in sustainable architecture projects, has created two structures where the interior spaces are visually connected by a large loft: dining room, bathroom, and kitchen are arranged on the access level, using furniture that blends with the architecture to optimize the spaces. The large west-facing windows enhance the sensation of "floating" over the ocean, dominating the horizon.

Interior and exterior connect through large windows

The access doors of each cabin can be opened onto the terraces to the north, to connect and interact with the outside and extend the internal spaces. This also allows the main structure to act as a shield against strong winds from the southwest, consolidating the terrace's viewpoint.
