The program called for three classrooms to occupy a large suoerface: the space is organized around an L-shaped sink that becomes a social gathering place. The divisions between the rooms are made with furniture that allows the space to be transformed for special events such as performances
The school's goal is to be a "home away from home" and to be a symbol of the many cultures that coexist in Brooklyn: this led the designers to incorporate graphic elements related to home and city into the design of the space
House-shaped cutouts in the walls provide reading corners and transitions into the child-friendly space. A mosaic of tiles in shades of light blue around the bathroom and sink references the city skyline
Color is used with an emotional purpose throughout the space: turquoise on the ceiling give the feeling of being under a bright blue sky, while orange is used in cutouts in the walls and elements to put accents in the space
