Designed by architect Peter Pichler for his client, who lives in a recently renovated 1960s farmer's house and wanted a structure consisting of two units to be dedicated to luxury vacation rentals. Guests have their own small apartment self-contained and can enjoy the experience of living in the midst of nature while taking advantage of all the amenities offered by a residence with high living standards
A contemporary and exclusive vacation in South Tyrol's Mirror Houses
Two small houses nestled among apple orchards just outside of Bolzano, in the beautiful surroundings of the South Tyrolean Dolomites: the Mirror Houses offer a unique opportunity to spend a vacation surrounded by one of the most striking landscapes that nature has to offer within a contemporary architecture of the highest standards

One of the main goals of the project was to create total privacy for both the client and the guests of the facility. The Mirror Houses are oriented toward the east with their own private garden, independent access, dedicated parking, and a small basement that serves as storage for sports equipment
The project design includes two volumes at different elevations and alignments to reduce impact and create dynamism. Each unit consists of an eat-in kitchen/living room, a bathroom and a bedroom with large opening skylights that give the rooms natural light and ventilation. The Mirror Houses are installed on a base that elevates them above the ground, expressing lightness and enhancing the view to the striking surrounding landscape. The volumes open toward the east with a glazed facade that connects with curved lines to the black aluminum envelope
A large mirrored window faces west toward the owner's garden, reflecting the view and thus making the Mirror Houses almost invisible when viewed from the rear. From some angles, the garden of the existing house is reflected in the new contemporary architecture, and the whole creates a blending of different architectural concepts that blend into the same context without disturbing each other
