The Morgan Motor Company, an artisan company that has been producing automobiles since 1914, through the use of reusable and recyclable materials is eager to reinvent its spaces and proposed the Hewitt Studios project, which manages to find a solution in line with the company's ethics
The project proposal includes a strong focus on sustainability: a series of low-carbon measures that have been designed to improve the thermal performance of the buildings, increase the entry of natural light, reduce energy consumption and ensure the recycling of end-of-life materials
The new interventions, a new exhibition space, a new outdoor canopy, all use prefabricated and modular wood structures referencing the historic Morgan body shop building. The existing buildings are improved both externally and internally
As for the entry canopy, each span is rotated by a few degrees at a time, so that it has a soft, organic shape, reminiscent of the rear wing of a Morgan and the gentle topography of the Malvern Hills. The wood has also been extended into the cladding with easily recyclable aluminum flashings
The wood chosen is laminated veneer, a readily available and sustainable and attractive product, thanks to its flexibility, excellent performance, good value for money and excellent thermal stability. The new structure is entirely prefabricated and makes it possible to have a considerably reduced energy requirement
