It was inspired by the image of the wooden docks along the edges of the Muskoka lakes, the boathouse was conceived as a series of planar elements that flow past each other. A slippage of planes that echoes the movement of the water as it changes course

The space designed by Akb Architects consists of 2 bedrooms, a shared bathroom and a living area with kitchenette on the upper level, the lower level provides functional storage space for recreational activities including three boat slips and cabinets to hold all the necessary equipment

This 2,300-square-foot lakefront property serves as a guest suite next to an adjacent cottage with panoramic sea, island and coastal views. The locally-supplied cedar siding was charred in a Japanese process known as ShouSugi Ban to preserve the wood from natural weathering while providing a low-maintenance exterior finish

A combination of Baltic birch and Douglas fir plywood envelops the interior walls and ceiling.  A concrete floor, on the upper level, defines the interior living space in contrast to the cedar wood flooring that features an otherwise continuous field throughout
