Naples Underground Central Station, between art and archaeology

The Naples Underground Central Station combines art, architecture, and archaeology: designed by internationally renowned architects, it redesigns urban space with a complex and symbolic topography, creating a dialogue between the present, the past, and the volcanic nature of Naples.

A station that combines art, architecture, and archaeology

Conceived as a symbol of contemporary Naples, the Naples Underground Central Station, designed by the Miralles Tagliabue EMBT studio, represents a fusion of art, architecture, and archaeology, an approach defined as "triple A". This project, part of an ambitious vision of innovative architectural projects, involved renowned architects such as Norman Foster, Massimiliano Fuksas, Álvaro Siza, Dominique Perrault, Karim Rashid, and Benedetta Tagliabue, with the aim of giving a unique and highly recognizable identity to the entire project.

A project between innovation and historical memory

Commissioned in 2004 by the Municipality of Naples, the architects worked to redefine the face of the new metro and railway station. The structure connects the city's natural volcanic landscape with the original 1970s design by Kenzo Tange. This new work is not just an infrastructure hub, but also a meeting place that relates present and past.

An architecture that transforms the urban surface

The new station creates a complex topography with various pedestrian levels, public spaces, and a building with an extraordinary structure. The project is designed to transform the artificial area into a dynamic and symbolic place, capable of accommodating the passage of travelers and narrating the historical stratification of the city. Thanks to its visionary conception, the Naples Underground Central Station is not just a functional work, but a true urban icon.
