Requalification of the Navarra Hospital: a new space for allergology

The redevelopment of the fourth floor of the Navarra Hospital building has transformed unused spaces into functional and welcoming environments, improving the experience for patients and healthcare staff. Through careful selection of materials and colors, the project meets the practical needs of a new allergology unit and also conveys a message of gratitude and respect for those who have worked tirelessly during the pandemic.

A regeneration project for the Navarra Hospital

The redevelopment of the fourth floor of the Emergency Department building at Navarra Hospital represents a significant architectural intervention, aimed at transforming a previously unused area into a functional and welcoming space. This project has given rise to the new allergology unit, distributed in two similar volumes and designed to enhance the experience of patients and healthcare professionals.

Space distribution: a functional and welcoming approach

The redevelopment project by GVG Estudio has paid particular attention to the distribution of spaces and waiting rooms. The architectural program was developed along the building's facades, with groups of small rooms dedicated to exams and treatments. This layout optimizes the functionality of the work areas and also helps create an environment that stands out from the typical hospital setting, often perceived as sterile and aseptic. A design that distinguishes itself among architecture projects of this kind.

A homely atmosphere in the corridors and waiting rooms

One of the primary goals of the project was to create a more homely and welcoming atmosphere in the circulation and waiting areas. To achieve this, a palette of green coverings and velvety surfaces was proposed, harmoniously integrating with the rhythm of the consultation room doors. This choice of colors and materials enhances the aesthetics of the spaces and helps create a relaxing and peaceful environment for patients waiting.

The lighting control, both natural and artificial, was carefully managed with the aim of creating a calm and serene atmosphere. The consultation and treatment rooms, as well as other workspaces, are characterized by a range of whites that, together with the translucent glass cladding of the existing facade, ensure generous and uniform brightness, ideal for healthcare activities.

A tribute to healthcare workers: the choice of colors

During the project construction, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic inspired a deep reflection on the choice of materials and colors. The finishes were selected to pay tribute to healthcare workers, evoking the tones of their frontline work attire worn during the health crisis. This symbolic gesture represents a permanent thank you for their dedication and professionalism.

In contrast to the green used in the main spaces, the bathrooms were designed with a powerful monochromatic pink, creating an intimate and protective space. This chromatic contrast not only enhances the aesthetics of the intervention but also emphasizes the importance of creating differentiated environments within the same project.
