The renovation of N O T ARCHITECTURE SDN BHD transforms a classic terraced house in Putra Heights, Malaysia, from a dwelling with deep, enclosed spaces and a conventional facade, into a new volume with a dynamic and balanced impact that encloses spacious and bright areas.

Expansion and renovation

The building has been reconstructed for 60% of its surface area and expanded by one floor to meet the growing space needs of the property, which has chosen the town of Putra Heights as its residence for its tranquility and pleasantness.
The house renovation carried out by N O T ARCHITECTURE SDN BHD involved a complete renovation where for the design of the main facade a kind of membrane made of bricks assembled in an interweaving pattern was created, allowing natural light and air to enter the house; this filtering wall also effectively acts as a privacy screen and anti-theft security barrier.

Materials and glass windows of light

The combination of materials such as concrete and bricks with light volumes in the construction of the building represents a pleasant mix of strength and delicacy, creating captivating visual effects on the facade.
Inside the house, the living room space is enriched by the double-height volume, the view of the courtyard, and the large glass window that floods the environment with natural light.

Brutalism and vintage

The kitchen, also open to an internal courtyard separated only by a roller blind, has an eclectic contemporary style: brutalist with its raw concrete counter but also vintage thanks to the ceramics used for the floor and walls.
The two internal courtyards offer a sense of serenity that brings great pleasure to those living in the house. They seem like a private oasis, protected from the neighborhood, where just a piece of land and a piece of sky create a connection with the outside. The living spaces, including the bedrooms, are arranged around the courtyards, visually connected through the large glass walls.

Industrial chic

Elements from the industrial-chic style are scattered throughout the house: the perforated sheet metal staircase, the raw concrete elements, the use of grays and blacks for walls and coverings, such as the elegant mosaics made of triangular tiles used in the bathrooms.
The sunny and bright balcony garden is made cozy by the wooden flooring and the Zen garden. In addition to the balcony, greenery is introduced in all spaces of the house, considered as an element that creates a living atmosphere and caresses the human spirit.
